Support and community in a time of coronavirus

During this time of coronavirus, kindness and community are more important than ever. Our projects are designed to help participants to experience wellbeing and community through inner practises alongside social connection. We are really delighted that we have been able to move our projects online to support people during this time, helping disadvantaged local residents to manage the difficulties of the current situation and to learn tools they can practise to develop their wellbeing and resilience.

Here is some information about what we’ve been up to. Many thanks to our project teams and partners who have been working so hard to make this happen.

Take Back Your Life

Take Back Your Life is offering weekly online and telephone sessions to previous course participants, helping them to keep practising mindfulness and meditation to manage their pain as well as the difficulties of the current situation. The sessions are also helping people to stay connected to other people during this time. The sessions are well attended and Tareshvari (the project manager) is finding that the online format works very well! Tareshvari has also been developing an online version of the 5 week course for people with stress or pain to support a new group of people. We hope that this will help them to develop the skills and tools to live as well as possible and to experience more joy and happiness during the pandemic and after.

The Language of Wellbeing

Our new yoga and English language project was due to start delivery in May. In partnership with Praxis Community Projects and our very supportive funders we decided to go ahead with an online version of the course, helping women migrants, refugees and asylum seekers to be supported and connected during this time. The weekly sessions involve an online yoga class with English language learning and conversation integrated. We are very grateful to the team at Praxis who have been working very hard to support participants to be able to get online! We hope that the sessions will not only help participants to stay well and connected, but will also support longer term health and wellbeing benefits, English language skills and friendships, which will be further built upon when the project can be delivered in person at a later stage.
